Overview

Drawing on his command of the USS Santa Fe, the nuclear submarine he took from worst to first in the fleet, L. David Marquet shows how leaders can sharpen communication and decision-making by abandoning Industrial Age language and constructs.

My Take

I was a little hesitant starting this book. But Mr. Marquet walks through his own lived experience alongside research into language, context, and team dynamics, then maps his ideas onto well-known leadership failures. Somewhere in that progression, I started to find real benefit for my own leadership, and the language I use with my team.

Who Should Read This

Anyone struggling to share a vision, frustrated by steep power gradients, or starved for psychological safety.
