Behavioral Consultation and Primary Care, now in its third edition, is Patricia Robinson and Jeffrey Reiter's operational blueprint for the PCBH model: the 15 to 30 minute consultation, the warm handoff, the Contextual Interview, and the population-based metrics that distinguish a behavioral health consultant from a co-located therapist.

My Take

Given that Jeff Reiter founded the very training program I now direct, this text sits closer to institutional memory than to an ordinary citation for me. Its value lies less in theoretical novelty than in operational precision: Robinson and Reiter translate functional contextualism into workflows a skeptical PCP can act on inside a single visit, which is precisely the gap most integrated-care texts leave open. This is a foundational text for PCBH, which others, incluidng Serrano and Ogbeide build on.

Who Should Read This

Essential for anyone training as a BHC or standing up a PCBH program; less useful as a stand-alone reference for consultants already fluent in the model.
